Benjamin Button was born old. Every day he gets a bit younger, which makes life in general pretty complicated and his love life incredibly tricky. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the original short story back in 2022, and it was adapted in 2008 into a movie scoring a massive box office hit with Brad Pitt at the helm. Now it has been transformed into a beautiful musical. The show sold out at the Southwark Playhouse theatre, to great critical acclaim, and now it's getting a well-deserved West End transfer for 2024-25. This is the winner of the 2024 Best Musical Theatre Production award at the Off West End Awards, not to be missed.
The plot has been relocated to a small Cornish fishing village by the writing team Jethro Compton and Darren Clark, with a book and lyrics by Compton and music and lyrics from Clark. The magic is produced by ATG Productions, Gary Beestone Associates, Gavin Kalin Productions, Eilene Davidson Productions, Umeda Arts Theater, and Jethro Compton Productions. It's a triumph for what the Director Jethro Compton says started life as a ‘scrappy little show'. No longer scrappy but a hit in the making, we predict tickets will sell like hot cakes.
