Sue Townsend's hilarious books made several generations laugh out loud, and they still sell like hot cakes. The Menier Chocolate Factory and Curve Leicester have worked hard to create a new musical celebrating Adrian Mole, aged thirteen and three quarters, and it has been delighting the critics and the media on and off ever since, from 2015 onwards. Now it's on in the West End for the summer, a proper treat for the kids and playing until mid-October at the Ambassadors theatre. So what's the score?
The plot goes like this, and it's pretty faithful to the original story: Adrian Mole's family is totally nutty. He's a clever lad and while he doesn't do that well at school he's convinced he is actually a Great Writer and Frustrated Genius. He often falls foul of the horrid school bully, Barry, and he has fallen head over heels in love with the new girl Pandora, who has just gone off with his best friend Nigel. Worst of all, there's a massive, enormous mountain of a spot developing on Adrian's chin. Can things get any worse for our hero? Come and see, have a laugh, sing along... it's such fun!
